Art Scapes: Carolyn Todd explains encaustic painting at upcoming Art Guild meeting
Encaustic art is also known as encaustic painting. This technique involves heated beeswax mixed with colored pigments to create vibrant artworks. Learn more about this technique, history and see examples at the Williamson County Art Guild meeting on January 6 starting at 6:15 p.m. Carolyn Todd will explain the various tools and materials needed to create this artwork.
The meeting is open to everyone at the Georgetown Public Library in the Friends Room. Members are encouraged to bring examples of artwork in the challenge theme of “Primal.”

This West Texas girl yearned to experience the picturesque places she had only dreamed about. As an international sales agent, she was inspired by museums, cultures and scenery worldwide. She explained, “I have painted and studied with some of the most notable artists in the nation which has influenced my painting.”

The PrintAustin 2026 Invitational exhibit is on display at the Georgetown Art Center from January 9 until February 8. The opening reception is 4-6 p.m., January 10. “PrintAustin” by artist collective PrintAustin reception includes live music, charcuterie and wine. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artist and discuss featured works throughout the gallery. This is a free event taking place during normal business hours and is open to all ages.
PrintAustin press release explained, “In the same spirit of the historic Salon des Refusés of 1863 in Paris, our Georgetown exhibition celebrates the breadth of contemporary printmaking by shining a light on the works that did not fit into last year’s juried show. Far from being secondary, these prints demonstrate the diversity, experimentation and technical skill that define today’s printmaking community.”
PrintAustin is an artist-led nonprofit organization working to showcase traditional and contemporary approaches in printmaking. Its mission is to share enthusiasm for printmaking by helping galleries, universities and artists curate, exhibit and promote works on paper and to engage a wider audience through artist talks, signings, panels, printmaking demonstrations and print-focused art happenings.
PrintAustin Collective was co-founded in 2013 by Austin-based printmaker Cathy Savage to bring attention to the vibrant printmaking scene in Austin. Together with Elvia Perrin and a group of local print-related advisors, they produced the first PrintAustin month-long festival in 2014.
The art center is located at 816 South Main Street in Georgetown.
