Beloved Georgetown pizza joint Frankie's reopens after fire
Frankie’s Pizza and Pasta — specializing in New York style pasta and pizza — was a popular Georgetown restaurant off of Williams Drive at Interstate 35. For 10 years, Frankie’s built its reputation with delicious food and good service at a fair price.
When their landlord chose a different use for the building, Frankie’s moved everything to a new spot at 1211 Leander Road, but was the victim of a fire that halted operations for more than a year.
“We bought the building and we rebuilt everything, and were open for two months, but on October 16, 2024 we experienced a fire,” Manager Jeff Metalia explained.
Reopening took much longer than anyone imagined, but upgrades and expanded space have made the new Frankie’s better than ever.
“We were closed for 15 months, until January 19, 2026,” Mr. Metalia said. “We had to rebuild the floors, ceiling, electric, plumbing. The whole kitchen, everything. Even the walls. Everything you see now is new.”
Frankie's is a true family business.
“Frankie is my sister-in-law,” Mr. Metalia explained. “I’m the manager. I have here my wife, my brother, my brother's wife, my dad. We’ve been living in Georgetown for 10 years now.”
Culinary skills were fine tuned by family members who worked at fine Italian restaurants in New York City.
Large groups are not a challenge for this business. Up to 75 can be served in the new space. The large room is easily divided to accommodate a group while still meeting the needs of individual tables in a more secluded area. Frankie’s is also well known for its catering. Even entertaining at home becomes effortless with carry-out trays of most menu dishes.
The extensive menu includes popular choices like chicken alfredo, eggplant parmigiana and lasagna. Veal selections are also offered. Every meal can be customized.
“You can do whatever you want, nothing pre-made,” Mr. Metalia stressed.
A wine and beer list and tempting desserts round out the menu. Prices are good and large portions allow for leftovers at home.
Bill and I started our meal with tasty stuffed mushrooms in a creamy sauce. Bill thoroughly enjoyed his chicken parmigiana sub sandwich. My thin crust margherita pizza was topped with garlic, basil, cheese and a combination of fresh and sun dried tomatoes. It was perfection on a plate! We brought home an order of cannoli. The crunchy fried shell was a perfect contrast to the sweet, creamy ricotta filling.
Mr. Metalia is proud of the new Frankie’s. The ability to make a comeback depends on customer loyalty. The bright, enhanced, larger space is a big plus. New York-style Italian food is deeply rooted in centuries-old tradition. Frankie’s authentic combination of fresh ingredients and generous portions suits nostalgic tastes. The staff is welcoming and the food is delicious. It’s wonderful to welcome Frankie’s back.
