Cindy Horton Townsend

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cindy Horton Townsend, who left us from complications of early onset dementia on May 24, 2024, just 12 days short of her 69th birthday.  Cindy was a cherished wife, devoted mother, loving grandmother “Cici” and dear friend to many.

Born on June 5th, 1955 in Waco, Cindy was the daughter of Allan and Keeta Horton.  She attended high school at Waco Midway where she cultivated a strength in sports, especially basketball, winning a high school state championship with her team, and went on to play on the inaugural women’s basketball team at Texas A&M. Cindy was a tenacious competitor all her life.

In 1977, Cindy married Mark Townsend after meeting on the basketball court at A&M. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising Austin and Rachel with unwavering love and guidance, a strong faith, and a competitive spirit. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life, and she took immense pride in their achievements and happiness.

Cindy was known for her care and compassion, and her ability to quickly become a close, loving friend and a second mom to her nieces, nephews and to her children’s friends.   She touched the lives of everyone she met with her kind heart, warm smile and excellent cooking.

Cindy is survived by her husband, Mark; her children, Austin and his wife Kelly, and Rachel Berger and her husband Dean, her grandchildren, Hannah and Graham Townsend and Sayge, Beckett and Brodie Berger, her sisters Nan Ellis and Jan Horton, and a host of brothers and sisters in law, nieces, and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents Malcolm Allan Horton and Mariquetta “Keeta” Coats Horton.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 9 at 2 p.m. at Sun City’s Community Center in the Retreat Lone Star room, 1220 Cattleman Drive, Georgetown, where friends and family will gather to celebrate her remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org and search “Cindy Townsend Memorial” in Cindy’s honor.

Her legacy of love, strength and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Cindy will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
