CRISTA DASHANNON WHITED CASSANO

(March 5, 1979 – July 25, 2024) After a 30-year battle with diabetes and the many complications that come with that, Crista left this world surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Those who were fortunate enough to know and love Crista will tell you that she loved BIG. Once you were family or friend, you would always be.

Crista was born in Waco, Texas, to Bennie Lee Whited and Terri Neasbitt Whited.  Crista was preceded in death by her mother. Crista leaves behind many loved ones (family and chosen family): her loving husband of 24 years Richard Cool, her son Ryker (10,) her daughter Rebel (8.) and her stepdaughter Alysa (27.)  In addition, her father Bennie Whited and his partner Wanda Fogg, her sister Grace McCraw, and her three brothers:  Rocky Neasbitt, Travis Whited, and John Whited (fiancé Brooke Leafa.) Crista also leaves behind her bonus parents: Andrea Jones, Martin Johnson, and Wendy & Ray Cool, and her best friends , Kristen Pope & Julie Callanan, who showered Crista and her children with love and care.

Crista attended school in the LaVega and Connally school districts; she would be the first to tell you that school was not for her. She preferred to be outside exploring or finding and caring for animals. As an adult, not much changed. She explored – places, foods, hobbies, friendships, experiences. She was the BEST party planner. Her love for animals continued throughout her adult life, and along the way she took in, cared for, and loved on many human beings as well.

Even though Crista experienced many health crises throughout her life, she was determined to live life to its fullest. She and Ric did some crazy things in their younger years together; they also had the privilege of witnessing each other grow into amazing parents. Crista’s biggest desire was for Ric, Ryker, and Rebel to have a “normal” family life (despite her health issues) - a rich, meaningful life full of new experiences, laughter, and love. Oh, the memories that were made! Crista showed unconditional love to all in her life. She lived authentically, even when it wasn’t necessarily comfortable.  This sweet, strong, stubborn soul will be greatly missed by many. Until we meet again!

There will be a celebration of Crista’s life planned at a later time.
