Lenard Lavan Wenzel
Lenard Lavan Wenzel was born in Travis County, Texas, on his family’s farm, near the community of Richland close to Manor, Texas, on June 15, 1938. His parents were Bennie Wenzel and Alma (Schmidt) Wenzel. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Richland. Lenard married Delores Ann Haverland on July 4, 1959 in Elgin, Texas. They moved to Georgetown in 1963. Their children are Janet Lee McAdams, Joy Lynn Schultz (Mark), Jill Lavon Kellum and Jammie LaClaire Lane (Jeremy). Lenard and Delores have 13 grandchildren: Aaron Ashby Brooks (Clint), Jessica Ashby Sanders (Nolan), Jacklyn Glover McCoy (Mitchell), Bonnie McAdams, Angela McAdams Fuller-Wigg (Chris), James Faught, Jonathan Faught, Aaron Schultz (Chandler), Adam Schultz (Katie), Patrick Kellum (Kaytlin), Alicia Kellum Jackson (William), Victoria Lane Fivecoate (Austin) and Chad Lane. They also have 20 great-grandchildren.
Lenard was a family man. He loved his family and getting together with them as often as possible. During the last few days of his precious life, many immediate family members came from near and far to show their love for him and have cherished time together.
Lenard was a hard-working man and his passion was cattle. He worked with cattle his entire life, growing up on the farm, operating a dairy, and as a cattle buyer. He made many life-long friends along the way, along many miles on Texas roads and several auctions throughout the state.
In addition to being survived by the family listed above, Lenard is survived by his brother and best friend, Leroy Wenzel, sisters-in-law, Pat Wenzel and Lue Wenzel, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Lenard in death are his parents; brother, Marvin Wenzel; and sister, Dorothy Hanson.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 17 from 4-7 p.m. at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, in Georgetown, Texas. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18 at 10 am at Zion Lutheran Church, Walburg, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to The Salvation Army.
