Norma Margarita Durant (Gomez-Jacobs)
Norma Margarita Durant (Gomez-Jacobs) of Georgetown, Texas, went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, July 28, 2024, 6:30 a.m. at the young age of 76. Her final moments were spent peacefully, being well cared for and loved on.
Norma was born to Charles Edney Newton and Zerita Agusta Gomez-Sullivan on September 11, 1947, in Road Town, Tortola British Virgin Islands, but spent most of her youth in St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands. Norma also spent some of her late adolescence after immigrating to New York. Maintaining a career in various states, and later settling in Texas.
Norma was the youngest of four siblings: three sisters Dorothy, Smyrna and Gloria and one brother Walter Alberto. Norma’s legacy will continue with her three living children, Carolynne, Oscar, and Tiffany, as well as two bonus sons, Karl and Melvin, and her many grandchildren and many great grandchildren whom she absolutely adored.
Norma dedicated her life and education to nursing as an LPN, specifically labor and delivery at various military hospitals. She served valiantly for over 20 + years until she retired honorably. Norma also spent many of her years devoted to her passion for Mary Kay Cosmetics and Prepaid Legal. She was a staple in the church community within every city that she resided, she loved the Lord and enjoyed singing in the choir more than anything. Norma was an advocate and proud ally for the U.S. military with all three of her living children having served, as well as many of her grandchildren. She was always extremely proud of that legacy.
After retirement, Norma’s physical health declined so she spent the majority of her time being cared for by her devoted son Oscar. Over the past few years, Norma and Oscar created a roller coaster of a bond… spending almost every moment together. Oscar’s daily routine was centered around mom’s welfare and care. Towards the end of her physical life, her care grew to be more than one man could handle. So, he willingly stepped down from his post, and passed the torch to his little sister Tiffany, her husband Melvin and son Christian (Big Baby), who stood watch until Norma’s final breath.
Norma is preceded in death by her loving parents Charles Newton and Zerita Gomez-Sullivan, her adopted mother Valerie Jacobs, her son Javier Francisco Durant and her fur-baby grandson Titan Hall.
