Robert Jennings Woodson

Robert Jennings Woodson (Bob) age 94, of Georgetown, Texas, entered into eternal life July 2, 2024. Bob was born February 23, 1930, in Birmingham, Alabama, to James Pettigrew Woodson and Anna Huger Jennings. A memorial service will be held on Thursday the 11th of July, 2024, at Grace Episcopal Church in Georgetown at 1 p.m. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Later in the summer, Internment will be at the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery near Killeen, Texas.

Those left to cherish Bob’s life and legacy are his loving wife of 70 years, Eileen (Topsy) Evans Woodson; daughters Elizabeth (Beth) Doty Woodson of Georgetown, Texas, Kathryn (Kathi) Evans Syzdek and husband Jim of League City, Texas, and son Robert Jennings Woodson, Jr (Pam) of Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

He is also survived by three grandchildren, Houston T. Wier (Veronica), Austin J. Wier (Lynnea Hagardt), and R. Eric Woodson; and four great grandchildren: Jaiden Wier, Ayden Wier, Summer Jane Wier and Raelin Wier.

He is preceded in death by his parents Anna and Jim Woodson, brother, Rev. James P. Woodson (Abigail), sister-in-law Patricia Evans Smith, nephew, John R. Gilbert.

Bob served in the USAF in Scotland as a Radio Intercept Operator, 37th Radio Squadron, during the Korean conflict. After serving in the USAF, Bob completed his education at the University of Alabama graduating with a BS in Industrial Management in 1957, having spent two years earlier at the University of the South at Sewanee, Tennessee.  Bob was also a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.   After a career in management as a stockbroker and an educator, Bob retired in 1998 from the State of Texas.

Bob will be remembered as a man of deep faith in his Lord, and was active in the Episcopal Church having served in various capacities over the years, both at the local and diocesan levels

His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends and including others into his welcoming circle.  Bob had an infinite love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who knew him as “Papa Bob”

Bob devoted his life to serving others and being an always affirming presence. He had a way of making everyone feel special and appreciated.  He was known far and wide for his genuine joy, sense of humor and willingness to do God’s work in whatever capacity he was asked to. He had a heart of gold and made a lasting impression on everyone he met.
