Tommy Sawyer Walker

Tommy Sawyer Walker was born in Taylor, Texas, to Thomas and Della Thornton on February 24, 1935. She went to elementary school in Jonah and attended high school in Georgetown, Texas. Tommy was an exceptional student and was awarded the American Legend Award for her outstanding academics.

Tommy married Bernard L. Sawyer (Mack) on June 9, 1952, and welcomed three rambunctious boys to their family, Bernie, Lee (Tim) and Dennis where she provided a loving home and raised her boys in the Christian faith. Mack passed away in December 4, 1995, and on August 11, 2000, she married Mervin Walker of Weir, Texas.

Tommy was a wonderful woman of many talents and achievements. Not only was she a devoted wife and mother but a committed individual. Her commitments included: being a loyal employee at H-E-B in Georgetown, Texas, for 25 years; responsible for publishing four historical books about the towns of Jonah, Walburg and Weir; held an instrumental role getting the Weir Community Cemetery a Historical Commission and lastly a woman of deep faith who volunteered her time to numerous causes to demonstrate God’s love in her community.

Tommy is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Della Thornton; husband Bernard L. Sawyer (Mack) and Mervin Walker, Johnny and JoeAnn Frayer (brother-in-law/younger sister), Delanna Garcia (niece) and Linda Sawyer (daughter-in-law).

Tommy is survived by her sons, Bernard Sawyer, Lee (Tim) Sawyer (Denise) and Dennis Sawyer (Jayne) and stepdaughter Charlotte (Duane) Davis. In addition to these loved ones, Tommy is survived by 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, six great, great grandchildren and many loving nephews, nieces, and cousins.

The funeral service will take place on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Andice Baptist Church.
