Football banner was typical rivalry rhetoric
Letters
Perhaps if Georgetown ISD and East View High School don’t want to see banners about “Our Town, Our Field, Our Game,” then perhaps let’s avoid a repeat next year.
For instance, let’s avoid having both Georgetown High School and East View High School sell the same exact game program on both sides of the field with the “Battle For The Town” tagline at the bottom of the cover page.
Additionally, let’s avoid both schools promoting rivalry week, another item from the cover page of the game program. Both schools had numerous postings about rivalry week as well.
Or maybe, let’s have sensitive adults avoid wading into a high school rivalry over a banner painted last summer for the game. The intent of the banner matched exactly what GISD and both schools promoted: “Battle For The Town.”
Ask any kid on the field from either team, either band, either dance team or either cheer team. There was plenty of banter out on the field just as there is every week. Placing the blame for hurt feelings and the frustration of a winless season on the GHS cheerleaders or their coach is misguided.
We can all be better but let’s all take responsibility here versus passing the buck. The intent of the banner was simply about a rivalry, nothing more.
