Wisdom cannot overrule realities facing women

The “Why don’t they just keep their legs together” argument is used to explain away any reason for abortion. In 2020, there were 126,430 forcible rapes reported in the U.S. This does not include those unreported, or incest or statutory rapes, according to Statistica.com.

With due respect to feminism, few women can fight off a determined, possibly violent man. Most people who think “keep their legs together” also think that women who were raped “asked for it” by behaving or dressing inappropriately. I cannot get into that conversation, but instead would refer them to their priest for counseling on the subject.

Many conditions will cause a baby to suffer greatly if allowed to be born. Many will cause a mother’s health to suffer, or death if pregnancy is allowed to proceed. Deaths and near-deaths have been reported as a result of abortion bans.

Recently a Texas mother suffered significant effects from delayed treatment for a miscarriage, in order to meet legal requirements surrounding the ban, and will now be unable to have another child.

Birth control? Yes, for women whose health does not prevent its use. It’s not perfect, however, and has side effects. Condoms are 98 percent effective, and without side effects, but few men will assume that responsibility. Certainly not a rapist, nor the men who legislate abortion bans. Now it appears a goal of some Christian nationalists is to ban birth control. Google it.
