Yvonne Catherine Davidsen

Yvonne Catherine (Carey) Davidsen passed away late Sunday morning on November 5, 2023, in Georgetown, Texas.

Yvonne was born to Alfred and Hilma Carey on March 29, 1936 in Ottumwa, Iowa. She grew up on Mary Street in Ottumwa and was known to family as “Vonnie”. She was very proud of her Swedish “Bergstrom Sisters” heritage on her mother’s side.  While in high school, she played viola and held leadership positions in student council.  Her home church was First Lutheran where she participated in Luther League and it was where she met Deloy.  Right after high school, she attended Iowa State Teachers College (ISTC) and taught elementary school with a specialty in reading.

Deloy and Yvonne were married at First Lutheran Church in Ottumwa on August 11, 1957.   They settled in Marshalltown, Iowa in 1966. Yvonne and family were active members of Elim Lutheran and Trinity Lutheran churches, and the local fine arts community. They remained there until July 2019, when they decided to be closer to family and moved to Georgetown, Texas.

For 25 years, Yvonne served as School Volunteer Coordinator for the Marshalltown School System.  She was awarded an Iowa Women of Achievement Tribute for her program and was part of  The Iowa Governor’s Planning Committee on Volunteerism.

Yvonne was an avid reader,  scrap booking, journaling and making travel photo albums. She enjoyed craft projects and at one point sewed a lot of her own clothes.  Her favorite memories were family camping trips, local picnics at Pine Lake, and planning out “Nana and Papa’s Summer Camp” for her two granddaughters which included garage sales, crafts, games and many Iowa field trips.

She loved teddy bears, hearts, butterflies, Abe Lincoln,  playing cards, giraffes, Mary Engelbreit, hot tea, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Wrigley’s Doublemint chewing gum, Blue Bunny ice cream cones and the color red.

Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents and oldest daughter, Cheryl.

She is survived by her loving husband, Deloy;  her daughter, Debra Hauser and husband Scott of Georgetown;  her “brother”(cousin), Bruce Pilcher and wife Cheryl of Independence, Missouri;  granddaughter, Kimberly of Atlanta, Georgia; granddaughter, Elizabeth and husband Andrew Odonnell with great-granddaughter, Ava Faye of Georgetown, Texas.

In honor of Yvonne’s love of reading, the family is suggesting donations be made to Georgetown Public Library
