Vandalism strikes confederate monument twice in one week

The Confederate Soldiers and Sailors Monument outside the Williamson County Courthouse was vandalized twice last week, on the nights of May 12 and May 14. In the first instance, the statue was sprayed with green spray paint with words that appeared to say “this is a symbol” across the front.

Drug bust finds assortment of substances, guns

In a recent narcotics investigation, detectives in the Williamson County Sheriff ’s Office Organized Crime Unit found over 90 grams of assorted drugs in the 2000 block of Kuykendall Drive in Georgetown.

Two people shot in Round Rock dispute

Two individuals were found with gunshot wounds after Williamson County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call in the Round Rock area on May 1 at approximately 8 p.m. According to police, the shooting took place in the 2200 block of Chandler Creek Road, an unincorporated area within Round Rock.

Coin theft from elderly leads to 60 years in prison

A Williamson County jury found a 56-year-old man from Pearland guilty of theft of property from an elderly Williamson County resident — a first-degree felony — on Wednesday, March 12.The jury subsequently sentenced Christopher Alan Young to 60 years in prison and imposed a $10,000 fine.

Drunk driver gets 40 years for manslaughter of Elgin couple

Taylor resident John Crayton, Jr. was convicted of intoxication manslaughter on November 14 and sentenced to 40 years in prison. Charges stem from a vehicular wreck that killed Elgin couple Leonora Soriano and Christopher “Ali” Vassef in 2022.

Hutto man gets 30 years for shooting at Georgetown police officer

Malcolm Watts, 25, of Hutto, pled guilty this month to shooting at a Georgetown police officer during a domestic disturbance back in 2021. He was charged with aggravated assault of a public servant and on October 10, was sentenced by Judge Stacey Mathews to serve 30 years in prison.
