The Brazos River Authority, which works with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for water supply storage and water reservoirs, announced that Stage 1 drought watch has been lifted for Lake Georgetown due to the recent rains. The lake has been under Stage 1 watch since March.

The reservoir at Lake Georgetown rose 25 feet and Granger Lake rose eight feet over the weekend as storms stalled over Central Texas, triggering flash flooding throughout the region.

Despite the recent rain relief this month, the Brazos River Authority and Williamson County are bracing for a hot, dry summer. The Farmer’s Almanac predicted this year to be a “scorcher of a summer” with Texas having a “Hot and Dry” outlook and temperature increasing, “4 degrees above normal.

Georgetown continues work to mitigate zebra mussels

The invasive species zebra mussels have been present in Lake Georgetown since 2017. With warm days and boating season arriving, boat owners should take precaution and thoroughly clean their watercraft to reduce the spread of the mollusk.

County bakes, literally, in worst possible drought conditions

With the end of summer approaching, Williamson County is experiencing a record drought. The worst drought previously was in August 2011, which lasted five months. The county returned to Moderate Drought in May 2012.
