Lifeguards provide summer safety

The public pools in Georgetown serve as a cooling place for residents during the scorching Texas summers. A common character seen at public pools are the city lifeguards.

Color the sky with kites at Garey Park

Bring your kite to color the sky at Garey Park with the Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department’s Color the Sky Kite Day on March 24.  The event will be held on in the meadow of Garey Park, 6450 RM 2243, from 1-4 p.m. Attendees will have to pay the park entrance fee.

Hutto begins renovation for ‘premier’ park

Hutto City Council approved a renovation plan for Fritz Park, located on the east side of the city at 400 Park Avenue. According to the city, the project is scheduled to start in December.

Kerplunkin’ pumpkins

The City of Leander’s Parks and Recreation will host its Floating Pumpkin Patch at the Robin Bledsoe Pool from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 14.

Williamson County hosts first bond information open house

Williamson County residents had an opportunity to learn about and discuss the upcoming county bond election at an open house at the Georgetown Annex off of Wilco Way October 3. Two county bonds will be up to vote in November.

Parks and Recreation to host skatepark workshop

Georgetown’s Parks and Recreation Department is having its second design workshop for the new skatepark and pump track that will become a feature in Garey Park.  The workshop will be held over Zoom at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 7.

Land purchased for future Southeast Georgetown park

The City of Georgetown has purchased 35 acres of land in the southeastern portion of the city for a new park. The park will be located at the intersection of SE Inner Loop and Southwestern Boulevard.  The land was purchased for $6 million.

Georgetown to use virtual reality for lifeguard training

Georgetown is one of two cities in the United States selected to participate in a beta test for a new Lifeguard Virtual Reality Training App. The Parks and Recreation Department is working with the American Red Cross to implement the technology which is expected to be released later this year.
