Georgetown's Walk to End Alzheimer’s was held at Southwestern University on Saturday morning, October 18. The event, which drew 500-600 participants, was coordinated by the Alzheimer’s Association Capital of Texas Chapter.

Coupland Dancehall dances on

The legendary Coupland Dancehall — which in August announced it would close after more than 120 years — will be taken over by Lightstream Presents, the same live entertainment group that owns the Haute Spot in Cedar Park.

Palace Theatre performance reaches new heights

In the Heights opened at the Palace Theatre on October 3 to the buzz of a highly enthusiastic full house.The popular musical opened on Broadway in 2008. It was nominated for 13 Tony Awards and won four, including Best Musical. A film adaptation was released in June 2021.

Georgetown's K-9 Kerplunk is held in the outdoor pool at the Georgetown Recreation Center on Saturday, September 6. The annual event is sponsored by Georgetown Parks & Recreation. This year’s event had separate pool times, one for smaller dogs, another for larger dogs.

Volunteers sliced smoked brisket and sausage in the pit area during the Annual Fall Bazaar at Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church on Sunday, August 31, 2025.  Barbecue and sausage dinners were served with dressing, potatoes, green beans, slaw and peaches.
Rosalio Rodriguez, who will be 71 on September 13th, herds his 60 head of sheep along the lightly-traveled County Road 345 south of Granger on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.  Health issues have curtailed his work recently, but he continues to work at a printing company in Pflugerville three days a week.  Every day, accompanied by his dog Rambo, Rodriguez lets the sheep graze along the side of the road.  He and his family have lived on five acres here since 2000.  He continues to enjoy his work. Counting sheep in Granger

In 2010, about a year after returning to Texas, I was doing one of those occasional drives in the countryside south of Granger when I noticed a man, joined by a Great Pyrenees as they herded sheep along a barely-traveled road.

Follow the light: Finding new subjects on daily walks

The things we see when we slow down and look. For years, my daily walks, mostly in Taylor, were visual points of departure. Tiny landscapes, where the light embraced the landscape. This offering includes tidbits of what I saw last week on strolls around Taylor.
