City of Georgetown to upgrade intersections, traffic signals across city

Nine intersections and all 82 of Georgetown’s traffic signals are actively being updated to improve traffic flow and be in line with city standards, according to a city council workshop presentation by Transportation Manager Lua Saluone.

Slew of traffic light projects underway in Georgetown

Three new traffic lights along Ronald Reagan Boulevard are in various stages of completion. The traffic light at the Ronald Reagan and Sun City Boulevard intersection will be updated by the city. The intersection is also part of Williamson County’s Ronald Reagan Boulevard Widening project.

Crashes on the rise on Georgetown roads

The number of motor vehicle crashes in Georgetown has gone up steadily over the past 14 years — from 1,658 crashes in 2011 to 3,871 in 2024 — as the city’s population has increased.

New school year sees school zone rules implemented

The first day of school for Georgetown ISD is August 15, meaning school zones will be in effect during drop-off and pick-up hours. As students return to school, the Georgetown Police Department will be monitoring school zones throughout the city.

Contractors detail future bridge work and traffic impacts

Construction on the two Austin Avenue vehicular bridges over the San Gabriel River will start this summer, and residents can expect lane closures and traffic detours as the bridge undergoes a bond-approved rehabilitation. Construction is expected to end in fall 2025.

Changes to the Austin Avenue corridor could see lane reductions

At their November 28 meeting, Georgetown City Council heard an update on the Austin Avenue Corridor Study, which considers transportation needs to develop a vision and recommendations for areas between the Southeast Inner Loop and Northeast Inner Loop.
