After 82 years, a hero is coming home

Never is an incredibly strong word. Never is an infinitely long time. Yet, after 82 years, First Lieutenant Charles Woodruff McCook’s homecoming has only been delayed. Thanks to scientific minds and patriotic hearts, it will no longer be denied.Friends and family called him Woody.

Speaker honors fallen through storytelling

At the annual Memorial Day ceremony at Sun City, this year’s keynote speaker — Major Jay Lardizabal, U.S. Army, Retired — spoke about honoring those who gave their life for their country, not through recounting how they died, but through stories that honor their legacy.

Celebrate veterans with Field of Honor, Sun City events

The Rotary Club of Georgetown Foundation will be hosting the eighth annual Field of Honor at San Gabriel Park from November 9-17 in honor of Veteran’s Day on November 11. There will be more than 2,000 flags set up across 10-acres at the park in honor of veterans.

The Field of Honor — organized by Georgetown’s Rotary Club every year in honor of Veteran’s Day — is looking for beneficiaries for this year’s event. The Field of Honor will take place in San Gabriel Park this year from November 9-17.
Retired Army Sgt. Michael Hernandez, a former combat medic who served in Iraq, is Williamson County’s director of veteran services. Alicia Emmons serves as grant coordinator, helping veterans and their family members with emergency financial assistance.

ROCK gifted $10,000 for veteran program

JP3 host Veteran’s Lunch December 1

Williamson County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Court will host a Veterans Appreciation Lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, December 1, at Georgetown Church of Christ.     The meal will include chicken spaghetti, green beans, corn, garlic bread and dessert.
