145 Years Ago(August 26, 1880)1880: First cotton bale arrivesThe first bale of new cotton came into Georgetown late Saturday evening and was bought by the merchants for 13 cents per pound. The bale classed good middling and weighed 645 pounds. It brought the owner, Mr. H. F. Stark, $83.

Georgetown Public Library summer reading program wraps up

Summer is typically the busiest season at the library, and this year was no exception. Every year, participation in our annual summer reading program continues to grow.

“Fleur Sauvage” is a six-feet tall steel representational sculpture of Black- eyed Susan flowers. Created by Anthony St James, it is on display outside Blue Corn Harvest Bar & Grill on West Seventh Street near downtown Georgetown. It was a winner in the annual 2024-2025 Sculpture art competition and on loan to the city. Winners of the 2025-2026 competition will be installed in October.

Texas Baptist Children’s Home celebrates 75 years serving families in crisis

The Texas Baptist Children’s Home will mark its 75th anniversary with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on its Round Rock campus September 4 at 4 p.m., similar to the one held in 1950. A community festival is scheduled for October 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
