Annual Christmas Stroll coming to Georgetown
The annual Christmas Stroll Festival is coming to town. Georgetown’s holiday event takes place from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, December 2, and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, December 3, on the Square.
Sponsored by the Downtown Georgetown Association, the festival includes live entertainment, holiday shopping, a food court and photo opportunities with Santa.
Free activities — including a four-station euro bungee jump, train rides, bounce houses, face painting and other activities for children — will be set up at Country Wonderland stations along Seventh and Eighth streets. Children can also meet and take photos with princesses and superheroes from the Greater Austin Comic Con.
A Groovin’ with the Grinch dance party begins at 6 p.m. on Friday at Main and Sixth streets. Free kettle corn for children will be provided by Hill Country Kettle Corn during the dance.
Festival attendees can also keep their eyes peeled for Santa, who is scheduled to make his way through downtown during the Stroll parade, which begins at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. The parade will include floats from local organizations and businesses.
Once he’s parked his sleigh, Santa will be available for photos from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on the west side of the Williamson County Courthouse.
Those visiting the Square can bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the Police Department’s Blue Santa program, which works to give Christmas presents to chilren in need within the city.
The Bethlehem Village, which includes performers dressed in costumes representing the time of Jesus of Nazareth, will be open both Friday and Saturday.
Stroll attendees can find free parking at the Williamson County parking garage at Third and Rock streets; the lot at Seventh and Rock streets; Eighth and Martin Luther King Jr. streets; and the city parking lot on the west side of Austin Avenue at Fifth Street. Hanicapped parking is available in the city parking lot at Ninth and Main streets near the Grace Heritage Center.
The parking lot at Sixth and Main streets will be closed on both days. The event will also result in some street closures around the Square.
The Christmas Stroll is a rain-or-shine event. If severe weather is expected, festival activities will be adjusted.
