City of Georgetown could terminate Austin Avenue bridge contract

After meeting in executive session Tuesday, April 28, Georgetown City Council approved an action that could terminate the Austin Avenue vehicular bridges contract with Cekra Inc. if the two sides can’t agree on a deal to finish and fix the work.

A longtime Georgetown nonprofit has changed its name, but not its mission. The Assistance League of Georgetown is officially rebranding to Uplift Wilco, and will become an independent nonprofit on June 1.
Ashley Collie became a doula in 2010 and was licensed as a midwife in 2018. She opened the Burnet location of Haven Birth & Wellness in 2020 and the Georgetown location in 2024.

Georgetown man gets life for sexual abuse of child

On April 20, a Williamson County jury convicted Jason Allen Crouch, 45, of Georgetown, of continuous sexual abuse of a child. He has been sentenced to life in prison. A former professional BMX rider, Mr. Crouch was also a track operator at the Central Texas BMX track in Pflugerville.

The public has voted, and Penny — one of All Things Wild’s opossum residents – is the nonprofit’s Ambassador of the Year. Voting took place over the weekend at the Red Poppy Festival and online at All Things Wild’s website. Penny was the clear winner, earning more support than three other finalists.
