Georgetown resident boasts friendship 71 years strong

Friends Les Sherman and Louis Rumsey cannot remember a day they didn’t know each other. For the past 71 years, the two friends have had playdates, played sports together, gone on bike rides, had and attended weddings, and caught up over lunches.

Georgetown won a back-and-forth matchup with Temple by leaning on a punishing rushing attack and a string of momentum-changing defensive and special-teams plays.The Eagles converted half of their third downs and produced 294 yards of offense in the game.

County budget breakdown: County’s FY27 budget approved

Williamson County Commissioners Court approved the county budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year on Tuesday, September 1. Totaling $712,942,615 the new budget will be about $10.4 million more than last fiscal year. The Commissioners Court also set the county tax rate.

Upgraded Rockride Lane in Georgetown ready for use

Improvements to Rockride Lane were marked complete with a ribbon cutting on Monday, September 1, finishing a $12 million project that took about a year to complete. This 2021 Georgetown transportation bond project renovated the roadway from SE Inner Loop to Sam Houston Avenue.

There’s limited hunting activity in the summer months, but the opening of dove hunting season — which runs September 1 to October 25, and then December 11 to January 7 — is an early sign that fall is indeed approaching.
