Williamson County library guide: Find books and award-winning services at the Georgetown Public Library
Any given day at the Georgetown Public Library, visitors can roam the stacks in search of their newest read, catch up on today's latest publications, browse the artwork, attend a music program, browse the internet via public computer, delve into the past through the archives and take advantage of many of the award-winning services the library provides.
The amount of love the librarians put into the library is reflected in the community’s passion for the department. Georgetown is the first library in a city with a population under 100,000 to have a Friends of the Library membership, which helps fundraise, with more than 1,000 members.
As the population grows, so does the demand for services and books. The library’s future plans include creating a book locker at the Carver Center for Families and consulting with third party companies to develop a plan for future needs. These would allow more people to access the services the library provides without having to physically visit the building. With the book locker program, residents would be able to reserve library materials and pick them up at the Carver Center for Families through a code sent to them when the item is ready for pickup. Library Director Sally Miculek said the book locker would essentially work as a branch of the library that does not have any holdings.
The library also offers books in Spanish for the Spanish speaking community or for those who are learning the language. The library website lists the latest Spanish-language fiction and nonfiction books that have been added to the department’s collection. Additionally, the library offers news information, resources for English learning classes and various other education classes.
Some of the programs the library puts on include Family Storytime, GPL World Cinema, Teen Anime Club, Read and Tell Book Club, Live Music at the Library and Homeschool Happenings.
Library programs are viewable at library. georgetown.org or by stopping by the library at 402 West Eighth Street to get more information.
