UPDATE: Williamson County selects Lindemann as Sheriff

With 99 percent of Williamson County precincts reporting election results as of 10:20  p.m. Tuesday, November 5, an estimated 52 percent of voters have selected Matt Lindemann as the new Williamson County Sheriff.

Mr. Lindemann has earned 140,434 votes while Democrat incumbent Mike Gleason received 129,623.

“I'm really excited that I'm ahead,” he said. “I appreciate all the citizens that have put their trust in me and voted for me. I look forward to January 1, when I can get sworn in and start to serve them as their sheriff.”

There are 448,421 registered voters in Williamson County with a 64.4 percent voter turnout for the election, according to the Wilco Elections office. Comparatively, the county saw 75.64 percent turnout in the 2020 General Election.

“Today, we topped 300,000 voters for the presidential election,” Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell said. “I am grateful to our election workers who handled the record number of voters with professionalism and efficiency. I also am grateful to the citizens who came out to vote. This is democracy at work.”

Incumbent Mike Gleason was elected into office in the 2020 election after defeating former Sheriff Robert Chody. During his tenure, he helped advocate for Tucker’s Law, which mandates schools to teach about the dangers of fentanyl and helped create the Civil Service Commission for the Sheriff’s Office.

Matt Lindemann was appointed as the Precinct 3 Constable in 2021. Before working for the county in 2018 as a Sergeant Investigator with the Williamson County District Attorney's Office, he was a Lieutenant in the Texas Rangers.

The November Election was Williamson County Elections Administrator Bridgette Escobedo’s first presidential election working for the County. She was hired by the county’s Election Commission in December 2023 after the resignation of Chris Davis.

“While overseeing my first presidential election in Williamson County, I couldn’t be more excited about the high turnout,” she said. “The community is doing an outstanding job turning out at our polling locations. I’m very proud of the work the elections department staff and volunteers have done during this election. I’m just very pleased with our Wilco turnout.”

Election results are not official until canvassed.
