County Briefs: Demolitions coming to old county jail site
Williamson County Commissioners November 5 said aspects of the historic county jail will be demolished to prepare the land for future uses.
Construction crews will start removing non-historic additions around the historic Williamson County Jail. The hope is the county will eventually sell the property, according to commissioners.
Commissioner Valerie Covey said the building behind the historic jail and the former health district will be removed.
“Our goal is that we are not knocking down the historic part of the jail,” Commissioner Covey said.
Taylor agreement
Commissioners entered into an Interlocal Agreement with the City of Taylor for design and construction costs related to the Corridor A2 project, a future connection between FM 3349 to Highway 95.
According to the contract, “the county will contract the design firm and will be responsible for the costs of the project. The estimated Project Cost is $29.5 million.
The City of Taylor will reimburse the County for the Corridor A2 Project for $3 million. City payment shall be due on June 15.
Legal settlement
During the November 5 meeting, commissioners agreed to pay $50,000 as a claims settlement for “an auto liability claim from Pablo Paguia for an incident occurring on or about September 27, 2023, at or near 8713 West Parmer Lane, Austin.” Additional details were not shared.
