Preservation Georgetown accepting applications for restoration grants

This year, Preservation Georgetown celebrates the 10th anniversary of its Preservation Fund Grant Program, an initiative that has helped historic property owners protect and restore some of the buildings that define Georgetown’s character.

Over the past decade, the program has invested more than $125,000 in historic preservation projects throughout the community, helping owners tackle repairs to foundations, roofs, windows, siding and other exterior features that ensure historic structures remain standing for future generations.

“Every restored porch tells the story of a family who once gathered there. Every repaired window preserves the craftsmanship of an earlier generation. Every stabilized structure protects a piece of Georgetown’s identity,” said Jerry McCulley.

“Historic buildings are more than wood, brick and mortar. They are tangible connections to the people who built this community and the stories that continue to shape it today.”

Applications for the 2026 Preservation Fund Grant Program are being accepted through July 15. Applications and more information can be found at www.preservationgeorgetown.org/preservation-fund.

The grant program’s timeline is:

  • Phase 1 Submission Deadline: July 15
  • Announcement of Projects for Consideration: August 15
  • Phase 2 Submission Deadline: November 15
  • 2026 grant awardees announced at the 2026 Home Tour December 12 and 13

As Georgetown continues to grow, Ms. McCulley said preservation becomes increasingly important. The Preservation Fund was created with a simple belief: once a historic resource is lost, it cannot be replaced.

“The Preservation Fund is not simply about saving old buildings. It is about preserving the sense of place that makes Georgetown special,” he said.
