GISD names Teachers of the Month for August and September

GISD names Teachers of the Month

Georgetown ISD announced its August and September Teachers of the Month.

August honorees are:

Elementary: Dede Harper - Frost, Patricia Barksdale - Mitchell, Suzannah Shoales McCoy, Debra Truett - Williams, Ashley Brewer - Wolf Ranch, Esme Bruesewitz - Cooper, Maddie Leigh - Village, and Lindsey Wilkinson - Ford.

Secondary: Tristan Rende Forbes MS, Cynthia Sokoff - Benold MS, Rickey Lambert - Tippit MS, Jillian Shanks - Wagner MS, Jim Meador - Georgetown HS, Perry Siegel - Richarte HS, Jeremiah Justice - East View HS.

September honorees are:

Elementary: Chaney Allen - McCoy, Mallory Dumas - Carver, Maria Beam - Cooper, Evelyn Felts - Wolf Ranch, Martha Beatríz Fenton - Village, Rachel Esquivel - Ford, and Mollie Fry - Mitchell.

Secondary: Jean Messer Forbes MS, Elizabeth Hickey - Wagner MS, Cody Boling - Benold MS, Hannah Golden - Tippit MS, Lisa Nava - Richarte HS, Meredith Brown East View HS, Amy Beran - Georgetown HS, Jennifer Larkin - GAP, .Elyse Tatum - STEP

Jarrell High School band, color guard earn honors

The Jarrell High School Band and Color Guard placed first at the recent Austin U.S. Bands Regional contest at Jack C. Hays High School. In their division, the band and guard placed first and won best percussion and color guard. The band and guard advanced to finals, where they placed sixth overall.

JISD names new transportation director

Jarrell ISD trustees named Maria Alvarado as new transportation director. Ms. Alvarado has 13 years of experience in school transportation. She has been working at Jarrell ISD since 2012.

Trustees also received an update on the transportation department: In addition, four new drivers were employed. Two bus drivers are in training to get their commercial driver’s license. Additional buses were added to the fleet.

The department is also recruiting a mechanic and additional bus drivers. Base pay for fully qualified bus drivers to $20.50 per hour. — Katherine Anthony
