Maurice Wayne Marr Jr., 67, of Georgetown, died Friday, November 10, 2023, at Rocky Hollow Lake House.
Celebration of life services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Chapel Georgetown followed by a private burial in Rosebud, Texas. Reverend Bob Lane will officiate.
Dr. Marr was born April 11, 1956, in Dallas, Texas to Maurice and Mary Virginia Geryk Marr. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio and Texas Tech University with a PhD in Finance and Statistics. His career started at Virginia Tech, spent time at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Washington D.C., and taught finance at Tulane and Clemson University. Wayne founded the Financial Economics Network and then co-founded SSRN (Social Science Research Network). His career included working at TEKsystems/Dell and Computer Sciences Corporation while acting as the CEO and Director of the Financial Economics Association headquartered in Austin.
His career took him north as Dean of the University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Management and concluded serving as Vice Chancellor at UAF. After retiring back to Texas, he served as the Public Director of Seed CX until 2017. Wayne was an avid hiker, enjoyed country western music and dancing, and was a passionate member of the 413 Parkinson’s Boxing.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, mother, Virginia, son, Eric and wife Genevieve and their children, Meadow and Summer. Extended family include Pamela and Gary Jackson and children, Cynthia and Keith Doty and pups.
