Boy Scouts give back to their community

Last week Boy Scout Troop 1096 participated in the Brown Santa program and helped prepare Thanksgiving meals.

On Monday, November 27, 40 Cub Scouts from Pack 151 gave toys to Brown Santa. Run through the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Brown Santa helps roughly 600-800 families in the county every year, according to the program’s website.

Additionally, Boy Scout Troop 1096 helped prepare Thanksgiving meals on Thursday, November 23. Six scouts, ranks ranging from Arrow Light Cub to Eagle, prepared 400 meals for Williamson County families.

In partnership with the Share The Will Foundation in Round Rock, the Scouts helped take the meat off the turkey, dished up the meals and packaged them for delivery. While the adults cooked the meal.

“Community service is perhaps one of the best benchmarks we can use to judge how our cities and towns are truly performing,” said BJ MacMillan, American Legion Post 174 commander. “When care for those who need it the most is lacking in our country, it speaks volumes about the direction of our society. It is what we do that determines who we are, and who we are is defined by the character we instill in our children and future generations to follow.”
