Mary Gallatin
Mary Gallatin
Mary Gallatin, 90, unexpectedly left this world on December 14, 2023. Mary was born July 8, 1933, in Westville, Illinois, to immigrant parents from Montenegro, Yugoslavia: Marko and Bernice Batrichevich. Westville is where she met the love of her life in grade school; Carroll Gallatin. In 1958 they were married and eventually landed in California. After living in California and starting a family, the Gallatin’s moved to Austin, Texas. There she and Carroll raised four daughters; Debra Werchan, Regina Parker, Bernice Gallatin and Kristy Hendrickson.
Mary retired from the Veterans Administration in Austin. What gave her the most joy was spending time with her family. She had six grandchildren; Matt Werchan, Sarah Sanchez, Jeremy Melendez, Daniel Melendez, Brooke Hendrickson, and Aidan Hendrickson. Nine great-grandchildren; Parker Werchan, Isaah Sanchez, Andrew Garcia, David Garcia, Jack Sanchez, Tycen Melendez, Jalen Melendez, Myles Melendez and Hadley Melendez, and expecting another great-granddaughter Lilly Beth Werchan. All her great grandkids called her Granny Grape and she loved it. She enjoyed going to the movies, going out to eat, visiting family and going to the casino. Mary had a heart of gold and throughout her life helped her loved ones. She was kind to all people she met and everyone loved her. Mary’s days were filled with her family and attending family gatherings. She will be missed deeply.
She is preceded in death by Carroll Gallatin, her husband of 43 years, her daughter Bernice Gallatin, her brothers Don and Mike Batrich.
Celebration of Life will be delayed due to the holidays. Contact family for information at rayh@swbell.net.
