Carol Dill Lehmkuhl

Carol Dill Lehmkuhl died on March 9, 2024 in Georgetown, Texas. She was born in Belvidere, Nebraska, on July 8, 1933, on the family farm where she lived until she got married.  She graduated from Belvidere High School in 1950; attended the University of Nebraska for 2 years and finished her Bachelor’s Degree from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio.

After graduating from high school, she taught at Coon Ridge School (the same country school her grandfather taught at 40 years prior). While raising her 3 daughters she began working as a librarian in the Elmhurst Public Library. She continued her love of Library Science working at the Houston Community College library following their move to Texas.

Carol’s many hobbies included: reading, gardening, sewing, dancing, healthy living, camping, church fellowships, playing games and family gatherings (specifically with her sisters). She passed on her love of “treasure hunting” at garage sales and resale shops to her children and grandchildren.  She valued education, the value of a dollar and hard work: which are also traits visible in her offspring.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband L. Don Lehmkuhl, who lost his battle with cancer in 2000. Additionally, her parents Squire (E.P.) Dill and Nelle Dill preceded her.  Carol was the last of six siblings to pass on.

They included:  Jack Dill of Denver, Colorado, Robert Dill of Belvidere, Nebraska,  Jean Anderson of Georgetown, Texas, Joanne Messman of Bruning, Nebraska, Barbara Beechner of Kearney, Nebraska.

Carol is survived by her three daughters, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Daughters: Pamela and Allan Dlhy of Frisco, Texas, Sandra and Mark Nygren of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Linda and Robert Larsen of Georgetown, Texas. Grandchildren: Amy (James) Robinson, Michael Dlhy, Amanda Nygren, Jennifer (David) Hinds, Alexandra (Micah) Lyda, Shelby Larsen, and Andrew Larsen. Great grandchildren: Ryan and Kaylee Robinson

Carol met her husband at the University of Nebraska. They married on October 3, 1953, and lived in Rhode Island, Iowa, Ohio, Illinois, Texas and Florida. Carol traveled with her husband, family and friends to many places near and far. They loved the Emerald Gulf Coast of Florida with its beautiful sand dunes and blue-green water, eventually retiring in Santa Rosa Beach. Upon Don’s death, Carol moved to Sun City-Georgetown and then to an independent living facility, the Wesleyan, in Georgetown, Texas, where she made many lasting friendships.

The family would like to thank the Wesleyan facility and Blue Water Homecare and Hospice for the love and compassion they showed Carol and her family in her final days.

There will be no service at this time, per Carol’s request.

Donations to the Wesleyan and/or Blue Water Homecare and Hospice may be made in her honor.
