Piedreros Custom Boots opens on Williams Drive in Georgetown

Piedreros, a custom boot, leather goods and belt buckle brand, just opened a boutique on 4809 Williams Drive, east of Lakeside Ranch Road. The boots are designed in Georgetown and handcrafted in El Paso.

The brand is owned by the Piedreros Horse Racing Team, well known around quarter-horse race tracks for their horses, which are named after the Looney Tunes cartoon characters.

In the past, Piedreros has made boots with cartoon characters on them inspired by the quarter-horse names. Tic it to the Dance, who is also known as Woody the Woodpecker, is their most accomplished horse.

The Piedreros brand aesthetic is not your traditional Western design. The store and horse racing team’s logo is two overlapping triangles inspired by a Viking symbol representing the afterlife and unity. The brand has created a following on social media including TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.

Raquel and Betsy Carbajal, who are cousins, help design the products, run the website and manage the store.

“We were kind of raised the same way,” Raquel said. “We’re almost like sisters. So we really learn from each other and work together.”

“Whatever I don’t think of she thinks of, and whatever she doesn’t think of I think of,” Betsy explained. “Let’s just say that she has the ideas, and I draw it out. She’s more of the creative-side and I’m more the business side.”

Piederos fulfills orders from all over the country and has made custom boots for Mexican singer-songwriter El Fantasma. Piedreros can create whatever boot the customer envisions and also has preexisting designs that they can tailor to a customer’s liking.

The boots are made from genuine, hand picked animal skins including python, crocodile, elephant, ostridge, giraffe, armadillo, lizard, American Alligator and Brazilian Pirarucu.

Piedreros also makes purses, jockey pants, t-shirts and baseball caps.

The Carbajal’s hope that the store will expand to the larger location beside their current building. They are currently working on designing socks, and the larger building would have room for a sock wall.
