Downtown Georgetown wasn’t always the bustling economic, cultural and historic destination it is today for residents and tourists alike.

In the 1980s — with a dwindling tourism industry and new developments making Austin the hot new area in Central Texas — Georgetown businesses and, in turn, residents, left the Square, with unoccupied buildings slowly falling apart.
