Jose Santos Ortega

Jose Santos Ortega, Age 91, passed away on June 18, 2024, in Round Rock, Texas.

Our beloved “Papá” was a very hardworking father who held multiple jobs to provide for his family. He was a dedicated member of the Holy Spirit Church in Georgetown, Texas, and volunteered at The Caring Place. Throughout his life, he generously donated to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“Papá’s” daily routine began with a morning walk at San Gabriel Park. After his walk, he would come home to make his “licuado,” and wait for his sons to call, with Juan, his firstborn, always being the first. He would then spend his afternoons at The Caring Place, pushing carts and chatting with friends. Every evening, he could be found sitting in his white rocking chair, enjoying the day. On weekends, he visited his daughters and great-grandchildren, always finding joy in having his family around him. Up until he was 91, he still drove and walked on his own. He was a very independent, strong and wise man.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Amelia García Ortega; his son, Juan Jose Ortega; his son-in-law, Antonio Rodriguez; and his sisters, Guadalupe Tello, Margarita Vergara, and Hortencia Heard.

Jose Santos is survived by his six children: Alma Cardona (Jose Santana), Norma Guillen (Juan), Roberto Ortega (Dora), Santos Ortega (Monica), Maria Guadalupe Ortega, Orlando Ortega, all of Georgetown, Texas, and daughter-in-law, Antonia Coss Ortega from Alice, Texas.

He leaves behind his grandchildren: Ana Laura Ortega, Jannett Ortega, Rosa Isabel Ortega, Juan Jose Ortega Jr. (Elizabeth); Orlando Cardona (Aimee), Rosie Cardona, Adan Cardona (Alicia); Juan Guillen Jr., Agustin Guillen, Amelia Guillen; Jannette Ortega (Jose Manuel), Christina Rodriguez, Antonio Rodriguez Jr.; Roberto Ortega Jr., Erika I.
