The Palace Theatre has served Williamson County for almost 100 years. The Georgetown facility opened in 1925 as a movie theater and switched to play productions in 1991. The Springer Stage, 810 South Austin Avenue, holds 291 patrons within the vintage theater. The Playhouse Stage is an intimate black box theater off Eighth Street and Tin Barn Alley. The Doug Smith Performance Center, off Second Street and Rock Street, is home to the theater education program. The Palace offers musical productions, classics, high drama, murder mysteries, seasonal productions and hilarious comedies throughout the year. Education programs provide a full calendar of classes for every age. The adaptive theater program welcomes students of all abilities. Sam Bass Community Theatre has been producing plays since 1981. The Old Depot Stage was the original Depot building for the Union Pacific Railroad that ran through Round Rock. In 1984 it was moved to the present location at 600 Lee Street in Memorial Park in Round Rock. Penfold Theatre Company will soon create a permanent performing arts venue in Round Rock. After 16 years of producing at various venues in the area, Penfold looks to grow roots at Rock Creek Plaza in Round Rock with the goal of opening in fall of 2024.
