Johnny L. Dunlap Sr.
Johnny L. Dunlap Sr.
It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that Johnny L. Dunlap Sr. passed from dementia on March 5, 2025 at 2 p.m. Heaven is sweeter but we have a huge void. He was the eldest son of Margaret and Noah Dunlap of Burlington, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joel Dunlap, and his son T. Scott Dunlap. Johnny graduated from Walter WIlliams High School in Burlington, North Carolina, in 1958, from NC State College in engineering and received his MSBA from Florida State University in 1970. He was employed by American Enka and then by Monsanto, Fisher Controls and lastly Emerson where he was an engineer, and manager of several different departments. The last two departments being the international sales manager in Marshalltown, Iowa and the international technical and documentations manager in Austin, Texas. He belonged to the Central Texas Woodcarvers Association. His hobbies were wood carving, hunting and fishing. He was proud to be an Eagle Scout, a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity, a member of First Baptist Church and the following honors: Inter-company conference of Champions winner, Quality Auditor winner in Austin, winner of the Malcolm Baldridge Award, serving on the advisory board for Austin Community College, being interviewed by the Wall Street Journal, and serving as an alternate delegate for the Republican Party when Bush Sr. ran for president.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Dottie Dunlap and son Jay Dunlap of the home. He doted on his grandkids: Nikki and Parker Achord, Lauren and Hayden Hood, Travis and Hannah Dunlap of Dallas, Kaitlyn Dunlap of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Eric and Nia Dunlap of Dallas, Texas. He loved and was proud of his five great grandkids: Poppy, Piper, Delilah, Gabe, and Charlotte. Together we will seek solace in his legacy of faith, dedication and love.
