Marvin Alvin Laurent, Jr.

Marvin Alvin Laurent, Jr., son of the late Marvin Alvin Sr. and Zeda Katherine, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on January 6, 2026. He was 90 years old.

Marvin was born in Beaumont, Texas on October 6, 1935, the middle of three children. He attended South Park High School and was a proud member of the Greenie Football and Basketball teams. After high school, he attended the University of Texas at Austin, (Hook 'Em), and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology. He went from the forty acres in Austin into a forty year career in pharmacy, primarily as the Director of Pharmacy for two major hospitals; Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, and Georgetown Hospital in Georgetown, after relocating from Beaumont to Central Texas.

Marvin delighted in being outside, whether he was traveling to Colorado or Big Bend National Park, or just working in his shop, mowing the yard, or trimming trees. He was happiest with sunshine on his face, sitting on his porch with family solving the problems of the world. Always quick with a joke, and easy to laugh, Marvin had a knack for building community everywhere he went. From his early morning coffee committees at the hospital(s) in which he worked, to his Bible study groups and a wide circle of friends across Texas and beyond, and finally, to his family who are heartbroken by his passing. He was the best of men, and he will be missed mightily.

He is preceded in death by his first wife of fifty-one years Sherry; his son, Scott; his siblings, Betty Jo and Jimmy; his parents, Marvin Sr. and Zeda; and his parents-in-law, Euclid and Elbertice. He is survived by his wife, Annie; his daughters, Sheryl (Henry) Kelley of Round Rock, and Kim (Curtis) Fort of Temple; grandchildren, Andreá Smith of Austin, Stephen Smith of Austin, Katie Fort of Austin, Kyle Fort of Georgetown, Kenna (Harley) Ullrich of New Braunfels; his honorary brother Euclid (Jordana) McLeod of Bertram; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to United Network for Organ Sharing, 700 North 4th Street, Richmond, Virginia 23219.

A gathering of Mr. Laurent’s family and friends was held from 6pm until 8pm, Friday, January 9, 2026, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
