Cookie shop Crisp & Chew celebrated a ribbon cutting for its new brick and mortar location at 1612 Williams Drive on Tuesday, June 16.
The company is owned by Georgetown residents Sarah Davis and Qudduws Ware, who have been together since 1997 and married in 2010. Her thing is chocolate chip, his thing is oatmeal.
Mr. Wares’ love for oatmeal cookies began the couple’s quest to find the perfect cookie, and inspired Ms. Davis to rediscover her love of baking in 2019. She gave samples to friends and family, and the response was so positive that it led to the couple’s founding of Crisp & Chew in 2024.
Ms. Davis’ cousin, Mag Powell-Meeks, described the pair’s work as, “doing something that [they] love, that people love, and they do it with love.”
One of their earliest taste-testers, Ms. Powell-Meek’s favorite flavor is the Chocolate Pecan Toffee cookie which is Ms. Davis’ favorite as well.
The two owners are proud of the “family-owned” label. The business’s staff is made up of friends and family.
“So much goes into this moment. It’s worth celebrating,” said Cheryl Brinkmeyer, programs and events manager of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, who organized the ribbon cutting.
Ms. Davis and Mr. Ware cut the ribbon and sported the severed halves as sashes to commemorate the accomplishment. A cookie decorating station for children at the event was monitored by Jarisha Onezine, the couple’s nanny of over a year. In life and in business, their mantra is “boundless endless possibility,” which can be seen in the blue sky theme throughout the store and in their logo — a cookie as a hot air balloon. The opening-day cookie flavor, “Blue Sky,” was blueberry-lemon and sold out at the event.
Mr. Ware described the community response as “crazy.” They sold more than 150 cookies in the opening hours. A little overwhelmed by the crowd that the event drew, Ms. Davis said “now [she] knows how to better prepare.”
“It’s a theory: Will this work? Will the community enjoy what we’re putting out? And so far, the theory has been proven. But we’re still trying,” Ms. Davis said.
Originally from Michigan, the pair moved to New York, to Austin and finally to Georgetown in 2021. Their website went live in July 2024, and the two began selling their products to Wolf Ranch Farmer’s Market in October of that year.
Ms. Davis bakes and develops recipes. Mr. Ware shapes dough, handles inventory, takes orders and manages employees. With both “Mom and Pop,” maintaining full-time jobs and three kids outside of cookies, Ms. Davis calls this “the way [she] can express [her] creativity.”
From their own kitchen to commercial locations, they stumbling upon this brick and mortar around nine months ago. Between contracting and rezoning, it was an uphill battle and this week, they were able to summit.
From here, they dream of growing to make ice cream cookie sandwiches, ice cream in house, add flavors as well as maintaining their current schedule of baking, selling and shipping.
They are open for business at 1612 Williams Dr, Georgetown, from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Fridays, from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and closed on Sundays and Mondays. For more information visit the website at https://crispnchew.com.
