John Joseph Michael Monarchi
May 25, 1944 – October 12, 2026
John Joseph Michael Monarchi, 82, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2026, surrounded by dear friends. John was born in Jessup, Pennsylvania, to John Joseph Monarchi Sr. and Nazarene (“Nan”) Rossi Monarchi. His father died in a coal mining accident just two weeks after John's birth. Raised in Danbury, Connecticut, among a loving extended Italian family, John developed a lifelong appreciation for family, history, and the importance of understanding our own stories. After earning a teaching degree from Western Connecticut State University, John moved to Texas in 1973 through VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America), part of President Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty initiative. He devoted 37 years to public service, including work with Child Protective Services in Williamson County and juvenile probation in Williamson and Travis Counties. He retired from Travis County Juvenile Probation in 2010. A lifelong seeker of knowledge and understanding, John loved science, history, philosophy, politics, and spirituality. He believed deeply in compassion, nonviolence, and the possibility of a world with less suffering. One of John's favorite biblical passages was 1 Corinthians 13:13: “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” John is remembered with love by his extended family and the many dear friends who became his chosen family. In John's memory, donations may be made to the Williamson County Children's Advocacy Center (wilcocac.org) or ChildFund International (childfund.org).
