Larry Reed Turney (1940-2026)
Born February 27, 1940 to mother Charlene (Copeland) Turney, died October 11, 2026 in Georgetown TX of ocular melanoma. He married Carolyn Jean (Payne) Turney on November 18, 1961 and had two daughters.
He had the ability to talk with anyone, created hospitality for others and was generous with friends. He enjoyed nature, hiking, and photography. He took pride in providing for his family, creating welcoming homes, and equipping his daughters to build independent, happy lives of their own. He enjoyed fixing things and imparted home repair wisdom until the end. His last project was creating a birdfeeder that the racoons couldn’t ravage.
In retirement at Sun City he was a true pioneer, exploring the areas and blazing a new trail that was developed into the Bur Oak trail that exists today. He made new friends, was known for his bear hugs, enjoyed baking cookies, led hikes in White Mountain Wilderness in New Mexico, and relished connections with the Breakfast Brethren (a weekly brunch group).
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Carolyn, his daughters Kimberly Jaye Turney, and Kelly Diane Turney (m. Steve Hilbun) of Nashua, NH.
A celebration of life is Oct 22 at 11:30 at Cowen Creek Ctr (Jarrell Room) 1433 Cool Spring Way in Sun City, Georgetown. Send memorial donations in his name to:
