Charles Hipp
Charles Hipp, age 78, passed away June 4 at the VA Hospital in Temple, Texas, following complications from COPD and CHF.
He was born April 11, 1946 to Louise Adams and James Tracy Hipp in Crystal City, Texas.
Charles graduated from Crystal City High School, attended Uvalde Junior College, and proudly served on the USS Goldsborough for the U.S. Navy in Vietnam. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, picking the guitar and mandolin, and singing “good old country songs” - especially with his father-in-law, George Kimbro. Charlie loved barbecuing with his dad’s special sauce - which he handed down to his daughter Rebecca.
In later years, he enjoyed cruising the neighborhood in his power chair (flag flying in the wind on back) and loudly honking his air horn!
Charles is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Kimbro Hipp, daughter Rebecca Schafer and husband Ben, granddaughters Zoё and Breanna of Temple, Texas, two sons, Charles Ryan and wife Danielle - grandson Jordan of Georgetown and Rob and his wife Bridget - granddaughter Braelyn and grandson Caden of Huntsville,TX. He is also survived by two sisters - Martha Vesper of Wyler, Texas, and Susan Thumm of Pearsall, Texas, - and two brothers- Elwyn and wife Karen of Helotes, Texas, and Warren Hipp of Pearsall, Texas. Charles will be truly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends, all of whom he loved very dearly.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 14, 2024, at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home. Interment followed at Whitely Cemetery, Georgetown.
