David passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at The Wesleyan's Laurel Hall on July 18, 2026, on the same day as his beloved wife, Sondy, in 2018. He was 93 years old and was the last surviving sibling from his family of 13. He was born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky to Stanley and Clara Hunt, and had fond memories of growing up in a large family. David was always in awe of how his mother managed to care so lovingly for all of her children. His older brothers and sisters truly left an impact on his life, as they guided him in his early years. Life wasn't always easy in the household, but, led by their mom, everyone knew the value of hard work and doing their share.
David met his wife, Sondra McKee, on a blind date on New Year's Eve and they were married the following November in 1957. Dave and Sondy spent 26 years in the Air Force. During this time, they moved eight times, including tours in Evreux, France and Frankfurt, Germany. He also served in the Vietnam War. David was proud of achieving the rank of Colonel and enjoyed his numerous leadership roles in the Air Force. He formed many lifelong friendships throughout his military career.
David and Sondy had their final assignment at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio and fell in love with the Texas Hill Country. In 1979, he helped to plan and build a beautiful home on 10 acres outside of Boerne, Texas, where they lived for over 30 years after Dave retired from the Air Force. One of the highlights of their retirement was a road trip of 10,000 miles to Alaska. He also volunteered many years building houses for Habitat for Humanity. They later moved to Georgetown to be near family.
David had a longtime love of sports. He played all sports in school, but basketball was where his talent shined. He even had college scholarship offers, and aspirations of coaching, before taking the military path. David was always sharing his love of athletics and the outdoors with the family. He patiently spent time with his daughters teaching them important life skills -reverse layups, changing tires, and parking the VW on a steep hill. Camping, sports, reading and outside work were some of his hobbies. Later in life, his grandchildren were a great joy. He delighted in spending time with them, rough housing around his pool, building tree forts, and blasting potato guns.
He is survived by his 3 daughters: Kathy and her husband, Jim Wieland; Susan and her husband, Russell Seguin; Cindy and her husband, Keith Nordell; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
