Earl K McLain, 100, of Georgetown, Texas passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, in the San Gabriel Rehab and Care Center in Round Rock, Texas.
He was born March 4, 1923, in Bartlett, Nebraska, to Tom and Marie McLain. He was one of four sons. He married Doreen Jacobsen in 1945. They were married almost 47 years. They had three children. His wife Doreen passed away in 1992. He married Carletta Parsons in 1995. They were married 17 years till she passed away in 2012.
Mr. McLain was preceded in death by his daughter Patricia Feickert, his brothers, Arnold McLain and Bob McLain and his great grandson Thomas “Bingo” Olson. He is survived by his brother Burdette McLain and wife Teen, his son Kenneth McLain and wife Juanita, his daughter Charlene Olson and husband Tom, 12 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
He graduated from Wheeler County High School in May of 1941. After high school, he attended Success Business College in Denver, Colorado. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 9, 1942. His father was seriously ill and the Red Cross got him released from the Army on May 12, 1943 to come home and help on the family farm until late 1944.
He met his wife Doreen Jacobsen at a movie theater and they were married on
January 26, 1945. He re-enlisted into the Army on April 6, 1945 and was discharged on
April 17, 1946. He worked at the St. Edward Bank in St Edward, Nebraska, until he started farming on his own in 1949. Severe drought caused him to give up farming and move to Denver, Colorado in 1956. He worked at Sundstrand Aviation, Colorado Milling and Elevator Co., and Denver Feed and Supply. In February of 1961 he moved his family to Eaton where he worked as an Office Manager and Chief Accountant at Agland. He moved to Brighton in 1978, where he worked at Adams County Co-op until he retired in 1986 and returned to Eaton, Colorado.
He was a member of the National Society of Accounts for Co-operatives, Chairman of the Salvation Army, Rotary President in 1970, the American Legion and The Lions Club where he held many offices including Lieutenant Governor 6-N from 1987-1988. He was an active member in the Eaton Methodist Church. Earl enjoyed fishing, golfing, dancing, and traveling to Texas to see his children and grandchildren. In 2013, Earl decided to move to Texas to be closer to his family. He celebrated his 100th birthday on March 4, 2023.
A celebration of life was held on December 30 with close friends and family at the American Legion in Jarrell, Texas.
He will be laid to rest on May 24, 2024, at 10 a.m. in Greeley, Colorado, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
