Homer Ray Thomas
Homer Ray Thomas, age 82 of Granger, Texas passed away on November 23, 2023, surrounded by his family. Homer was born July 30, 1941 in Seguin Texas. At age 18, Homer married the love of his life Barbara (Bobbie) Culwell on March 8, 1960. They grew their family with the addition of son, Monty, in 1961 followed by daughter Diane in 1962.
In 1961, Homer joined the military as a member of the Air Force, where he also earned his GED during his time of service. His time in the service took him and his family from Amarillo, Texas to McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey.
Following his time in the military, Homer worked for the railroad, which took him from Colorado to Michigan and all over Canada. He also worked for a time as a log truck driver in Montana. He and his family eventually settled in Georgetown, Texas in the 1970s, where he started his construction company that paved the majority of the parking lots in Georgetown in the 1980s and 1990s.
Homer was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed a bit of hunting and loved to fish, and grow tomatoes. He often took his children and grandchildren fishing, especially at Lake Buchanan. Homer loved to be outdoors, even if it was just to sit outside and listen to talk radio on his hand-held radio that went everywhere with him.
Homer is preceded in death by his parents Lonnie Lee Thomas and Ethel Thomas, his brothers Roger, Haymen and Lee Thomas and sister Lavern Goddenn, and granddaughter Shay Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara (Bobbie) Thomas, son Monty (Paula) Thomas of Georgetown, daughter Diane (Jack) Moore of Granger, grandchildren Kody (Matt) Hajda of Granger, Shane (Emili) Moore of Georgetown, Dalton (Brooke) Thomas of Georgetown, Walker Thomas and Payton Thomas both of Georgetown, great-grandchildren Maize and Maelynn Hajda, Dakota and Parker Thomas, brother Emmitt Don Thomas, and sisters June Sledge and Joyce Walker.
A visitation for Homer will be held Friday, December 1, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, TX 78628. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. at IOOF Cemetery, 1117 East Seventh Street, Georgetown, Texas 78626.
