Iain McDougall Sproull

Iain McDougall Sproull passed away peacefully at his home in Georgetown, Texas on September 8, 2026, following a lengthy battle with glioblastoma. Born September 15, 1956, in St. Louis, Missouri. Iain grew up enjoying sports including ice hockey, volleyball, track, rugby and golf. He was an ardent fan of the Green Bay Packers, Arizona State Sun Devils, and Phoenix Suns. It was through rugby that he met his beloved wife, Barbara “Barbie” Allison. Iain will be remembered for his deep love of family and his superb cooking skills. He and Barbie shared nearly 40 years of marriage, building a life of faith, friendship, and adventure. He never missed a soccer, football, or basketball game when his boys were playing and took great joy in watching his sons build lives of their own. Iain enjoyed a successful career in commercial construction, leaving a professional legacy throughout the Austin area in the buildings, schools, and auto dealerships he helped bring to life. A devout Catholic, Iain found meaning in his faith and service, generously volunteering on boards, booster clubs, and committees. Iain is survived by his wife, Barbie; sons, Patrick (Maggie) and Sean; grandsons, Liam and Evan; mother, Mary Herman; brother, James (Elaine); sister, Nancy Sieja; brother-in-law, Thomas Allison (Jane); sister-in-law Victoria Bailey and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald; sister, Jane; and brothers-in-law, Eddie Allison, Richard Sieja and David Bailey. Funeral Services will be held at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2700 E. University Avenue, Georgetown, Texas 78626, on September 15, 2026, at 10 a.m. with a reception to immediately follow. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, 8626 FM 1105, Jarrell, Texas 76537. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul – St. Helen Conference, 2700 E. University Avenue, Georgetown, Texas 78626.
