Jerry Jo Burkett
Jerry Jo Burkett
Jerry Jo Burkett, age 89, went home to be with Jesus on October 18, 2024, passing peacefully in the comfort of her residence at the Hacienda at Georgetown. She was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. We mourn this temporary separation but celebrate the love and life she shared with us.
Jerry was born on November 26, 1934, to Joe and Nannette Mitchell in Durant, Oklahoma. She graduated from Wills Point High School and then obtained degrees in education and geology from the University of Texas. Post college, she taught high school to Americans in France. While there, she met the love of her life, Delmar Burkett. They were married on June 6, 1959. While she left the teaching profession to be a full-time mom to Mike and Kelly and the home CEO, she never stopped teaching us about parenting, marriage, and friendship with her words and actions.
Jerry is survived by her husband Delmar (Georgetown, Texas), sister Patsy Mitchell (Hideaway, Texas), son Mike Burkett and wife Chris (Burnet, Texas), daughter Kelly Adams (Seattle, Washington), grandson James Burkett and wife Courtney (Dallas, Texas), granddaughter Carrie Schneider and husband Andy (Austin, Texas), grandsons Tristan and Tyler Adams (Seattle, Washington), as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and countless long-time friends.
Her Celebration of Life service will be held online for friends and family. Memorials may be made to East Lake Fellowship, 13218 Ranch Rd 2341, Burnet, Texas, 78611, or some organization supporting Memory Care near Georgetown, Texas.
