John (Dick) Sowash
John (Dick) Sowash (89) passed away July 18, 2023 in Corpus Christi, TX. He was born on September 30, 1933 in Anderson, IN. He is the son of John Richard and Martha Eileen Sowash. Dick graduated from Anderson High School in 1951 and Indiana University in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business. He pledged Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. In college he was active in AFROTC and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-1959. After his service he returned to Anderson, IN to work at Sears & Roebuck then Delco Remy. In 1963, his career in Real Estate began and he became a prominent member in the Real Estate industry. Over his career as a RealtorĀ® he was President of the Indiana Board of RealtorsĀ® and owned his own businesses. In 1996, He moved to Sun City, TX where he retired as a Business Consultant and Director of Training & Business Development in Georgetown, TX.
Dick loved music and singing. In high school he sang in the Choral Club and Madrigals and in college, he sang with the Singing Hoosiers. Also, when he moved to Sun City, he joined the Sun City Singers. Model Railroading was another one of his hobbies that he loved. He was quite the skilled artist, building many miniature buildings and dioramas in support of his railroading community. Other activities he enjoyed participating were the Sun City Pilots Club and Sun City Model Builders. He joined The Worship Place in 2002 as its 46th member and served on the Board of Trustees.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, John and Martha Sowash; wife (1984-2007), Diana Sowash and son, Robert Sowash.
Dick is survived by his son, Rick Sowash of Corpus Christi, TX, daughter, Cindy Roe (Victor) of Oklahoma City, OK, sister, Susan Perkins (Jim) of Peru, IN; step-daughter, Laurie Smith (Dan) of Murfreesboro, TN, grandchildren: Jasmine Sowash of Anderson, IN, Jess Lyden (Troy) of Corpus Christi, TX, JD Cooksey (Lyndzi) of Oklahoma City, OK, Casey Sowash of Indianapolis, IN,step-grandchildren: Luke, Sophie Smith of Murfreesboro, TN and great grandchildren: MaMaryah, La Rayna, Luna, Hart, Legacy and Emberlynn.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 3 at 2:00pm at The Worship Place, 811 Sun City Blvd, Georgetown, TX 78633. In lieu of flowers, send donations to the American Cancer Society.
