Juan (Johnny) Martinez

Juan (Johnny) Martinez, 81, entered into eternal life on Thursday, January 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving and devoted family.

Johnny was born on October 4, 1942, in Lamesa, Texas to Eloy Sr. and Elisa Martinez. He was a graduate of Lamesa High School, class of 1962. He wore ‘64’ and played offensive guard for the Golden Tors football team.

He had a lifelong love for all sports and enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Antonio Spurs. Johnny was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He attended basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana and was honorably discharged from Fort Rucker, Alabama in 1966, serving in the 1st Aviation, 5th Battalion and 31st Infantry.

After serving his country he continued to work as a stonemason for 38 years.

Johnny was a parishioner of St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Georgetown, Texas. He had a devotion to our mother, Mary and truly lived Christ-like. Johnny loved and cared for everyone. He will greatly be missed by all.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Eloy Sr. and Elisa Martinez; brothers: Eloy Jr. Martinez and Tony Martinez; grandchild, baby Recio.

Johnny is survived by his son, Joey (Victoria) Martinez; daughter, Anita (John) Recio; and son, Randy (Monica) Martinez. Johnny was blessed with nine grandchildren: Abriana, Zenida, Zemira, Zienna, Ziada, Megan, Marissa, Nathaniel and Nicholas.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Baylor Scott & White Hospital at Round Rock for their compassionate care.

A time of visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2024, in the Chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home, with the Recitation of the Rosary to begin at 5 p.m. 

The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024, at St. Helen Catholic Church, Georgetown. 

Mr. Martinez will be laid to rest at Georgetown Memorial Cemetery following the Mass with a police escorted procession.
