Lyle Thomas Bishop Jr., 75 of Georgetown, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on February 6, 2025 . To many family members he was known as Tom. After his diagnosis of a terminal lung cancer in 2024, he maintained a positive attitude and inspired others with his expression of gratitude for the life he was allowed to live and the many wonderful people in his life.
Lyle was born on June 29, 1949, in Saginaw Michigan, to Lyle Thomas Bishop Sr. And Mary Francis Bishop. He was a devoted Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather and friend.
Lyle was an Electrical Engineer and Master Electrician who was an avid problem solver and inventor of small things. Lyle had a quick wit that he learned to manage in his later years. Lyle spent almost all his career in the food industry working for food manufacturers like Mrs Baird’s bakeries, Frito-Lay and Kellogg’s. He also worked with several food machinery manufacturers designing equipment and managing projects for customers.
After retiring to Georgetown, Texas (Sun City) in 2014, he devoted time to hobbies like playing pool and his other passion of building and racing radio controlled sailboats. In his spare time, he designed and built electronics projects and home automated gizmos. He loved traveling with his wife, Georgia. Lyle has fond memories of Alaska, Panama Canal, Canadian Rockies, Lake Louise, many National Parks, Greece, Spain, and spending many Minnesota winters in Puerto Rico. He enjoyed cooking and became accomplished at it helped by the food industry experience. His wife, Georgia, would tell others that she always prayed God would find her a husband, who could cook and her prayers were answered. They enjoyed Country Western and Oldies but Goodies dancing together. They had dine out night once a week as a special time together to give Lyle’s cooking a day off.
Lyle is preceded in death by his father, Lyle Thomas Bishop Sr., mother, Mary Francis Bishop; and his son Stephen John Bishop. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Georgia; his oldest son, Matthew Thomas Bishop and wife Julia, Double Oak, Texas; step-son, David Jason Kalogerson, Minnetonka, Minnesota; step-daughter, Kari Lohaus husband Jeff, Denver, Colorado; sister, Beth Bishop, Saginaw, Michigan; brother, John Bishop and wife Karen, Haslet Texas, 11 grandchildren: Ryne and Zachary Bishop, Isla, Rex, Haddie, Wheeler, Davis and Mena Kalogerson, and Bradley, Grayson, and Beckett Lohaus. Plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family wishes to thank the many friends and neighbors who visited and supported Lyle and Georgia during this challenging period. Your care and attention made a difficult time better.
Private celebration of life is to be held at a later date.
