Nate Stark

Nate Stark died unexpectedly on April 23, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. Nate was born February 8, 1949 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but was raised in Hereford, Texas. He left the plains of the Panhandle  to attend the University of Texas at Austin. He graduated from the UT Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1976.  He served as a Travis County prosecutor for several years, before launching his successful solo career as a criminal defense lawyer. In a career that stretched more than 40 years, he was a mentor to many young lawyers and respected by both colleagues and clients.

Nate was an unabashed liberal who loved good food, good drink, a good laugh and lively conversation. He enjoyed nothing better than the company of friends and family or a game of golf. He was a great man who truly lived life to the fullest. His good humor, grace and steady presence will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Sheila, his son, John
Nathan Stark, Jr.  and his wife, Sally, grandchildren John and Izzy, his twin brother, Ken Stark and wife Denise, and his sister, Connie Doak.

A memorial service celebrating Nate’s life will be held at the Andice Baptist Church in Florence, Texas, on June 8, 2025, at
2:30-3:30 p.m. A reception from 4-6 pm will follow  at the Cimarron Hills Country Club in Georgetown, Texas.
