Patricia Layne Smith
Patricia Layne Smith
Patricia (Patti) Layne Smith went home to Jesus on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the age of 63 years old. Patti was born to Billy and Kathryn McDonald on January 21, 1962, in Dallas, Texas. Patti is survived by her brothers: Ed McDonald, his wife Darla and their sons and families; Danny McDonald; her children: J.M Jones, his wife Caitlin and their son T.J; Taylor Rosenauer, her husband Jonathon and their two sons, Wesley and Walker; Shelby Basey, her husband Cade and their two children, Dixie and Dutton; and her partner, JP. Patti is preceded by her father Billy McDonald, mother Kathryn McDonald and husband, Gary Smith.
Patti graduated from Skyline High School in Dallas, Texas, and went on to graduate from Baylor University with a Bachelors of Science in Education. She began her teaching career in 1983 and after three years of teaching, decided to change careers and began working for MetLife Property and Casualty. For nine years, Patti was a Market Underwriter working in the field recruiting and training in her “power suits”. She then traded in her suits for school spirit wear and returned to the classroom. Patti’s talents extended to a variety of subjects and leadership roles. For 29 years, she touched the hearts of many students as well as her peers. After retiring, she couldn’t stay away from the classroom, and began substitute teaching.
When Patti was not in the classroom she was filling her time by supporting her children. Whether on the competition floor, baseball, football or soccer fields, at band concerts or swim meets, she was their biggest cheerleader.
In recent years, Patti enjoyed attending various sporting events, concerts and traveling with JP. She loved spending quality time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Patti was passionate about life. She was strong willed, determined and was the ultimate multi-tasker. She inspired many, encouraged everyone she came in contact with, was always ready to lend a helping hand, and could always put a smile on your face.
Please join us for Patti’s Celebration of Life service on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Ramsey Funeral Home and Crematorium in Georgetown, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the family’s GoFundMe to help offset this unexpected loss.
